Covington
wasn't always the name of the village. In fact, the village
has had quite a colorful history and several names over
the years before it was incorporated under the name of Covington
in 1835. It was first known as Fort
Rowdy back in 1793. References to subsequent names are
found in several historic accounts. These names include
Fort Buchanan, Friendship, Oldtown, Rowdytown, Newberry,
and Stillwater. Preserving this rich heritage is the Fort
Rowdy Museum. Located on Spring Street in Covington.
